The short answer

Sea buckthorn carries a real antioxidant cast: carotenoids, vitamin E compounds, flavonoids, phytosterols, and vitamin C in the fresh berries. What it does not carry is a meaningful ORAC score, because ORAC was retired as misleading. Composition says what is in the plant. The problem was fundamental: a test tube has no digestion, no absorption limits, and no metabolism. Sea buckthorn marketing sometimes leads with superoxide dismutase, an antioxidant enzyme the plant contains. The catch is digestion: SOD is a protein, and proteins eaten by mouth are broken down like any other dietary protein.
